Wonderful News
Something happened today that has never happened in the whole history of Mrs. Gibson's class......EVERYONE TURNED IN THEIR HOMEWORK! Wow, one month into the school year and students are right on track with homework. We were so impressed everyone had to get a ticket!! Keep up the great work!
We took our MAPS reading test today. Some students scored really high, while others maintained or went down a little. I really wanted them to try their best, but we usually see a little regression in the fall scores because of being out of school for the summer. Hopefully, by the end of the year we will see steady progress and great scores! We will take our Math MAPS test on Friday.
Book orders were sent off today. They should be in by the end of next week. Also, progress reports should go home soon (I'm thinking Friday). Keep in mind that we have had many changes since the beginning of school, so the students do not have that many grades yet. We are now beginning to settle into a regular routine and hope to be on a normal schedule next week after MAPS testing.
Homework tonight:
Read 20 minutes
Grammar: Subject and predicate sheet
Math:
Mrs. Gibson's- Rounding through 100 thousand
Mrs. Collin's - Study for assessment tomorrow. (students have a study guide)
Have a great evening!!! Mrs. Gibson

Happy Wednesday!!
The students are continuing to turn in homework and get agendas signed nightly (that makes me so happy!!!). The transitions that we have had in the past week with new students coming in and others leaving our class have gone very smooth as well. It is a big adjustment switching classrooms, however, our new students have done a wonderful job!!
Read 15/20 minutes (15 for 3rd, 20 for 4th)- Fill out reading log with at least a 2-3 sentence summary.
Math- Mrs. Gibson/Stevenson's group- PW8- Rounding to the millions- this has been a hard concept for the students. They just need to make sure to find the place value first and underline it, then look next door to the number and decide if it needs one more or leave it alone. We actually sang a song today to help them remember :)
Mrs. Collins Math- PW 9
Spelling- Quartile Grid- This is a sheet that the students were given and must decide which quartile to put spelling words in according to how they begin.
Reminders- Scholastic book orders due this Friday (if you need more time, just let me know); This weekend is Labor Day weekend so there will be no school on Monday.
Hope everyone is having a great week! Mrs. Gibson

Happy Monday!!
Technology is up and working! It feels good to have everything working and in order... I have talked to four of my students and explained to them that they would be transferring to another class next week. I hate to lose my students because I become pretty attached from day one. We have to make room in the third grade because they are over cap size so I am giving up 4 4th graders and recieving 4 3rd graders. I think that our new teacher is going to be great so things will turn out just fine. We have started homework hot and heavy this week. Students will be having spelling, math, and read 20 minutes most nights. I had several students turn in 4-H forms. We need permission slips and 4-H enrollment forms turned in as soon as possible. Have a great evening!!

Just another Tuesday...
Still no projector today, but I am getting pretty good at teaching the old way. I am just using a lot of chart paper and will run out of room to hang them if my projector does not get fixed. We have had a productive day. We read the story A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon and then wrote a summary of the story. The students set up their math notebooks and we began math today with a lesson in place value. The students have homework that needs to be turned in in the morning. After lunch we had a Mazula Children's Theatre workshop that taught the students how important it is to show what is happening and not just say what it is. Please make sure to sign your child's agenda tonight! Have a great evening!!!

Trying to use technology can pretty frustrating! All lessons that were planned today used our projector and promethean board. Guess what??? The projector's light bulb is blown out and Ms. Connie has to come from the board to fix it. That means we had to teach old fashion style today! It is a good thing my students are flexible and easy to get along with!!!! They acted like it was no big deal! Any way, hopefully, by tomorrow we will be back up and working! No homework tonight. We are still trying to work on procedures and take beginning of the year assessments to try to group the students. Please go ahead and begin signing agendas so that it will become a habit.

Tomorrow is the day!
Hope everyone is ready for our big day tomorrow. School will let out one hour early for those of you who are not aware. This is only for the first day of school. There will be many forms coming home with students tomorrow. Please try to get those back to us as soon as possible. If you are like me and have three children in school and it takes a couple of days, I totally understand. I will be sending home also a form that shows you how to follow our class on twitter. You do not have to have a twitter account to follow (I don't have a personal one), but you will still recieve daily updates on your cell phone. Also, I will send home a business card with my email and our blog address. Please try to follow our blog as students will be making posts about what we are learning in class. I am looking forward to meeting and working with each one of you!
